You should first plan your installation; you should produce a sketch of your building with the relevant dimensions in metric units. Establish the lengths of the guttering and downpipes you require; you should always slightly overestimate, it is much better that the guttering is too long than too short!

You should then make a list of all components you require to complete the installation. Something you should keep in mind whilst producing your list of components -

  • Fascia Brackets should be spaced at a maximum of one metre apart on straight Guttering runs. (800mm in the case of the Niagara system).
  • Angles, Stopends, Running outlets and union brackets should have a Fascia Bracket within 150mm of the fitting.
  • A supporting Pipe Clip should be used on Shoes, Branches and Bends where necessary.
  • Support downpipes below offset at maximum intervals of 1.8 metres.
  • Silicone spray lubricant should be used to ensure an easy fit and to allow for movement caused by expansion and contraction.

You should consider creating a checklist for all the components you need so you don't forget anything whilst ordering. Print a Checklist

Removing Existing Guttering

The screws holding the old guttering, brackets or clips may be rusted into place; if this is the case you will need to saw the screws off using a padsaw with a thin cutting blade. If thick bolts have been used to connect the guttering you will need to use a hacksaw to saw the bolts.

You may want to take this opportunity to replace any damaged fascia boards. We recommend using Fascia Boards supplied by National Plastics

Establish the position of the Running Outlet

The running outlet

Before fixing the running outlet you should take into consideration that the running outlet should be fitted 10mm per 6 metres (6:100 fall) lower than the furthest end of the guttering. Fix the running outlet to the fascia board using fascia brackets and 30mm Screws.

You should now fix the end fascia bracket to the fascia board, taking into account the 6:100 fall. If the outlet is positioned in the middle of the Guttering fix a fascias bracket at the other end.

Tie a string line from the outlet to the end fascia bracket; Use this line to establish where to fix the intermediary fascia brackets. These fascia brackets should be fixed no more than 1 metre apart.

Installing the Guttering

Once all the brackets are in place, you can install the main guttering

You should use a Union Bracket to join the first and second lengths of guttering. The joint is made by clipping the two ends into the union clip, which is also secured to the fascia with a single M4 x 25 Screw.

If you have a corner, hold a 90º angle in place to mark where the Guttering is to be cut before you fit the angle.

At the end of the Guttering run, fit an external stopend; clip it in place in the same way as outlets, angles and unions. If the new guttering has to join up with an existing Guttering you will need to fit a Guttering adaptor

Install the Downpipe

The distance between the Guttering and the wall is may need to be bridged using two offset bends and an appropriate off cut of downpipe cut to size. The offset bends can be push-fit using a pipe clip

Niagara guttering should use either a round or square Downpipe. To attach Round Downpipes to the Niagara range you must use a SQ/RD Downpipe Adaptor.

Fix the first length of downpipe with its socket uppermost into the outlet, fixing it to the wall with a pipe clip at the top holding the pipe to the wall.

Fit the rest of the downpipes using a pipe socket to connect each pipe together. At the base of the pipe, fit a Shoe secured with a Pipe Clip.
